Delivered by the team of contemporary jewellery making & design studio, The Design Studio by Azza Fahmy, this immersive Masterclass offers a unique opportunity to novice designers to design a jewellery set inspired by a famous architecture through inspiration translation and sketching.
In addition to hands-on design activities, the Masterclass includes lectures and discussions on the critical aspects of designing for sellability and commercialization. Learn how to apply techniques in jewellery design, such as filigree and calligraphy.

Masterclass Structure:
Day 01: Introduction and Inspiration
Explore the concept of jewellery set design and view examples from architecture inspirations. Students will be able to trace exercises to select forms and details from the architecture images and learn the sketching basics and how to use the traced forms to think about the compositions of jewellery.
Day 02: Techniques and Sketching
Delve into how design techniques impact the sellability and commercial success of jewellery. Using Azza Fahmy’s use of calligraphy and filigree as a case study. Learn sketching basics and how to represent various jewellery types effectively.
Day 03: Design Development
Begin work on necklace composition using the tracings from the architectural inspiration. Students will create 2 variations: one for day wear and one for evening wear.
Day 04: Final Outcome Presentations and Technical Demonstrations
Technical demonstration that will explore various types of stones while focusing on its setting techniques and tools.
Program Requirements:
- Designers should have basic experience in jewellery making, designing and sellling.
- Designers with an interest to uplevel their and learning new design skills.
- No advanced experience required, novice designers without a brand or degree are invited to apply.
