Sabry Marouf’s approach is quietly radical: merging new-world vision with old-world craftsmanship, always asking where a creation will exist decades from now. This philosophy has earned international recognition, with milestones including the Fashion Trust Arabia Prize, bespoke commissions for Egypt’s First Lady, and the Cleveland Museum of Art’s acquisition of their Tutankhamun handbag.

About the Designer

Ahmed Sabry: CREATIVE DIRECTOR, CO-FOUNDER

Born in Giza, Egypt, Ahmed Sabry is the Creative Director of Sabry Marouf. Growing up on the West Bank of the Nile, Sabry’s youth was characterized by a unique mix of past, present, and future – of alternate, sometimes competing, versions of history which have left their mark on a bustling modern city in the shadow of the Great Pyramid.

Having begun to learn ancient history in his early years and, subsequently, having absorbed as much of his own expansive cultural heritage as possible, Sabry’s creative viewpoint was further crystalized by formative trips to Europe in his adolescence and in early adulthood. Here, he expanded on a creative spirit and a passion for innovation with a renewed sense of purpose – taking in new influences from other cultures and unfamiliar ways of creating.

Sabry studied MA in Fashion Artefact at London College of Fashion, and with a BA in Marketing & Public Relations, as a designer, his contribution to the brand is one of communication through any medium possible. New technologies, new materials, new techniques – all of these are ways of reaching out, of creating not only beautiful things but also shared experiences.

Daki Marouf: MANAGING DIRECTOR, CO-FOUNDER

Having spent his childhood living between Cairo, Egypt, and Houston, Texas, Marouf’s perspective on life is informed by a symbiotic relationship between Eastern and Western perspectives – not a culture clash as a sense of different philosophies, coming together to work effectively as one.

For Marouf, these dual identities required a creative outlet. A gap in the luxury market for contemporary Egyptian design, coupled with a lifelong passion for designing, making, and selling provided exactly that, reconciling the many facets of his personality and personal history, giving them a sense of purpose.

With an MA in Fashion Entrepreneurship and Innovation from London College of Fashion, and a BSc in Architecture, Marouf applies his wide-ranging skills to the Sabry Marouf brand – working to make the label not just bigger and better, but also to make a positive contribution to his own cultural heritage, and toward addressing ethical and ecological issues at the forefront of the industry.
