About the Designer
Yousef Akbar, born and raised in a conservative Saudi family in the 1990s, always had a deep desire for artistic expression. Though becoming a male womenswear designer seemed impossible at the time, his life took a turn when he received a scholarship to study logistics and supply chain management in Australia.
Still drawn to fashion, Yousef enrolled in fashion school to learn how to make clothes he couldn’t afford. There, he discovered a passion for design and eventually earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design. In 2017, he launched his eponymous brand. Known for his bold construction and focus on the relationship between fabric and the human form, Yousef blends innovation with elegance and femininity. His work is a medium for self-expression, rooted in his lifelong artistic drive.
In 2020, he won the Fashion Trust Arabia Eveningwear Prize. His brand has since gained international recognition, with celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, and Alicia Keys wearing his designs.
