Gifts from the Sea

Inspired by the Around the World exhibition, this hands-on workshop invites children to explore the sea as a source of precious materials, inspiration, and cultural meaning. Guided by facilitator Sarah Champa, participants will discuss objects in the exhibition made from gifts of the sea and consider examples from their own culture. They will think about why materials such as shells can become meaningful or precious when transformed into jewellery. Using shells, beads, elastic, wire, and string, participants will then design and create their own gift-from-the-sea bracelet. The workshop encourages observation, cultural reflection, creativity, and personal expression while introducing children to the relationship between natural materials and adornment. Each participant will leave with a finished bracelet inspired by the sea
